Review + Giveaway: For Now by Chelsea M. Cameron

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release: November 5, 2014

Blurb:
Two people. A relationship with no commitment. What could go wrong?

Javier Cruz definitely isn't relationship material, but that suits Hazel Gellar just fine. She's not a girlfriend girl and doesn't plan on ever being one.

But after a mind-blowing, bed-breaking night, she knows once isn't going to be enough. Fortunately, Javi feels the same way. And it's not just the sex. Javi is funny and complicated and Hazel loves being around him, even when he drives her nuts.

Will she and Javi make the choice to be together for longer than just right NOW? Or will their hangups about romance be the end?

Review:
Okay, so I'm just going to start by saying that if you're a fan of New Adult you need to be reading Chelsea's books. My first New Adult book was a Chelsea M. Cameron book from her Fall and Rise series (GO READ THEM NOW!), and I haven't looked back since. She is great with combining humor, drama (basically all the feels) with characters that pull you in with their crazy lives, entertaining conflicts and sizzling between the sheets, bed breaking sex scenes, and For Now delivers.

Now I must confess, and shame on me, but I have not read For Real, book 1 in the Rules of Love series. Yes, I know… I'm kicking myself for it, but it's currently sitting in my Kindle just waiting for me to dive into all its literary goodness. So now that that's off my chest, here's what you need to know about For Now: Javi and Hazel are kickass. Not only do they have cool names, but they are fun, flirty, and as I mentioned before… their sexy times are so amaze they really did break a bed. So, yes, I'll have what Hazel's having… please?! Also, it's a pretty straight forward read. There's no crazy drama to frustrate you, just two cool, normal, somewhat closed off people, navigating life and love.

Anyway, Hazel and Javi go through the typical let's just play this cool and be fuck buddies kind of thing, but like most fuck buddy situations it doesn't go as planned. Since they are both so stubborn they struggle a bit with opening up, but once they do they get so freaking cute I can't even! I mean, those cutsie pet names, they may have been said as jokes, making fun of silly couples in silly love, but I loved them. And a man who can cook, and cook extremely well? So hot, so sexy! And for those of you who have read For Real you'll enjoy reading more about Shannon and Jett—now those two are sweet, so sweet I've got a toothache and I don't even care.

Written Revelry gives For Now 4 out of 5.

Happy Reading,
A

Review & Giveaway: Alex: A Cold Fury Hockey Novel by Sawyer Bennett

Genre: New Adult Contemporary, Romance
Release: October 14th, 2014

Blurb:
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn't afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn't so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who's been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team's effort to clean up his image. What she doesn't expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn't one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn't do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex's bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Review:
Sawyer Bennett is an author that I randomly discovered while browsing Amazon, and I'm so glad I found her. She has a way of balancing the scorchingly sexy and romantically sweet elements of story to make one great read—and Alex definitely lives up to that.

I've recently been pulled into books with the sporty element, and why not? These athletes are paid to take care of their bodies and I can for sure get behind that. They're also a little bit, or a lot, cocky, demanding and successful. Now that is hot… and where Alex Crossman comes in.

Alex is all of the above—nice body, successful, a whole lot cocky… and an asshole. He's also the typical commitment-phobe who doesn't form emotional attachments, especially to women. No rings, no strings, seems to be his motto. But can you blame a guy who grew up with an asshole father? He takes the whole "stage mom/dad" to a new level, and unfortunately some of that assholery (yes, today that's a word) was passed down to Alex. Sutton also grew up, and was abandoned, by an asshole, but she was able to overcome that, and I think that's what ultimately draws Alex to Sutton—aside from her looks. Their similar pasts allow Sutton to empathize while giving sympathy without pity… because, man, that guy does not do well with pity.

Some of the things I loved about Alex were the appearances made by Sutton's family and their (Alex and Sutton) flirty texting. Sutton is a very patient, understanding, completely loyal and supportive person—her family is the same way. Her brother Glenn is the sweetest freakin' kid (who brought sweet tears to my eyes on multiple occasions), and Sutton's love and devotion to her family is such an attractive quality to Alex. He may be a little bitter and envious, but you can see how much he admires her because of it.

I think a lot of women fantasize about being that one woman to change/tame the bad boy. To turn the ladies man into a one woman man, and Alex is very much that, but I love the journey. You get both points of view in Alex, which helps you understand the characters demons and motivations. There's another bad boy and fellow Cold Fury teammate, Garrett, who makes a couple appearances and I can't wait to read about how he gets the girl in the next Cold Fury Hockey Novel.

Written Revelry gives Alex 5 out of 5.
This book will have you experiencing an array of emotions. Irritation at asshole Alex. Admiration for everything Sutton does. A few tears (good and sad) from Alex's boneheaded-ness to Alex's sweet and tender side. And throw in quite a few laughs whenever Garrett is involved!

Teaser:

“So you want me to change.” His jaw is taut.

“You need to change, or you’re not going to get what you want.” He needs to hear it. “And you’re going to be miserable your whole life—”

“I don’t know how to change!” he yells.

I stop, half-expecting the divider separating us from the driver to roll down, but it doesn’t. We’re still alone in the backseat. I should be afraid, I should be recoiling the way I do whenever a man raises his voice to me. But when I reach for the fear, I don’t find it.

All I find is…pity?

“I know what I am. What I’m like.” His voice cracks, just slightly, but he masters it. “If I could be different, I would. Do you understand that? I’m not like you. I can’t slip on someone else’s persona like changing my clothes.”

That stupid twinge of pity turns into a full-fledged needle. I’m very familiar with that shadow in his voice, because it’s been in my heart for years. Self-loathing. At least I can escape myself by being other people. He doesn’t even have that luxury.

Stop it, Rae. Don’t you dare feel sorry for him. He has everything you’ve ever wanted, remember?

“That’s bullshit,” I say bluntly. “You can change. Anyone can change. No matter how long they’ve been…bad. No matter what their past is like.”

I have to believe that.

“Show me.”

“What?”

He turns his full gaze directly on me, and I lose myself for a brief second in those ice eyes. “Show me how to be someone else. You do it so easily. You’re getting paid enough, I might as well get some use out of you.”

“You mean like…give you nice lessons?”

He grimaces. “I’d rather we didn’t call it that.”

“Well…” I hesitate.

“Please,” he says emotionlessly. And if I had to bet on it, I’d say it was damn near the first time that word had passed through those perfect lips.
